Class #2 Thursday, November 30, 2023 Plate by ZUMBA with ZIN Monica Velez via ZOOM

 Hey there, family and friends, and anyone else out there in cyber space!  I'd like to give you a very warm welcome to our Plate by ZUMBA with ZIN Monica Velez ZOOM classes; and this is session 2 of our 5 weeks.  Thank you so much for being here with me today!

Ok, as I begin writing this, I am in the process of deciding what I want to say?  What do I want to talk about for our ZOOM class time or video time?  In the last class (session or video), I talked about my story, shared a little about my history and background, and talked about my vision and goals for both myself and our class time together these next 5 weeks /December 2023 (or the videos if you watch or catch them later).  I also presented 5 what I call "activities"; that is, I gave 5 questions for you and me to think about as we begin our journey.

For today's topic, I think I'd like to touch on the following:

  • Review questions from previous class
  • Recall Nutrition basics
  • Learn about Macro nutrients/ micro nutrients
  • Go over What to put on my plate?/ "Eat this/avoid that"
  • Review the Plate by ZUMBA Food Chart (red/orange/green)
  • Conduct some New Activities
  • Check-in, how are you doing?  where are you at?

Sidenote; while I'm thinking about it, I quickly wanted to let you know where I can be found on social media!  My ZUMBA fitness classes are listed on the zumba website at monica velez dot zumba dot com, all one word.  My Plate by ZUMBA schedule is also listed there, for future reference.  On facebook I am zumba girl monica velez with underscore symbol between each word; that one is a "community page" and I give announcements for ZUMBA special events as well as food tips on what I've been doing for my own clean eating.  On IG (insta gram) I have the same handle as my FB (look for zumba_girl_monica_velez) and I should pop up.  And, finally, this blog Plate by ZUMBA with ZIN Monica Velez.  You are more than welcome to follow me on social media if you like; no pressure, though!

Allright, let's begin today's session.
Review questions from last class:
1. How much do you weigh today?  Where would you like to be? What is your SMART goal?
2.  What, if any, fad diets or other diets have you ever tried in the past?
3.  On a scale of 1-10, how committed, determined, weary or leary are you for achieving your health goals?  Why do you think you picked the number you picked?
4.  What are your current thoughts on food and healthy eating?  Have you, or anyone you know, ever had any misconceptions surrounding food and health?
5.  Have you considered keeping a food journal or a kind of food diary?  Why or why not?

Today's Lesson will cover the following topics in more detail:
  • An overview of the Plate by ZUMBA program, what is it and more
  • What are macronutrients?  Micronutrients? Wy do we need both?
  • What are essential plants?
  • What are essential calories?
  • How to choose what to put on your plate?
I'm not exactly sure how much time it will take me to review, share and go over this material with you.  It could be longer than 30 minutes then I will stop and continue later on in the next session.  Or, it could be shorter in duration like around 20 minutes.
